6 Million Free Eco-Bulbs In Panama

Panama will share 6 million ecological bulbs, approximately two for every citizen, as a measure to meet the increasing demand for electricity, president Martin Torrijos announced. The operation " ecological bulb" implies that the government buy ecological fluorescent bulbs, worth of 13 million dollars to replace the incandescent ones.
This program is similar with others that have taken place in Cuba, Venezuela, Europe and Australia. Torrijos claims that the economy resulted from the replacement bulbs with ecological ones assimilate with the construction of a central energy of 60 megawatts, but to a price of ten times lower.
In recent years, electricity suppliers from Panama have made efforts to keep the pace with the demand increasing caused by economic growth of the state.
The first shipment of 3 million ecological bulbs will arrive in Panama at the end of the month. The bulbs will be distributed free in poor suburbs of Panama City.
