China's 3rd Largest Hydropower Station Will Be Ready This Year

Longtan hydropower station, the China's 3rd largest, will be put into operation until the end of this year. The seven sets of generators with a capacity of some 700,000 kilowatts each, will come into operation until the end of 2008, announced Dai Bo, the general manager of Longtan hydropower station.

The Longtan hydropower station project is the third largest project from China and has a value of approximately 4.35 billion dollars. It is located on the upper course of the Hongshui river, tributary of Zhujiang river, and is designed to provide 18.7 billion kilowatts of electricity annually.

The Longtan project has recorded 2 world records: the highest concrete dam and the largest underground factory. This project will improve navigation on the Hongshui river and will contribute to flood prevention.
