The access to clean drinking water has been and will be a concern. Even when drinking water is available, sometimes in abundance it can be contaminate with microbes and is not appropriate to drink. Julia Parreiras and Veronica Santos have developed a low cost / no cost disinfecton solution for those who drink water from unpotable sources or even from rivers. This can be created using 100% recycled materials, the entire system is powered from waste.
This amazing system works like this: water is heated using a solar concentrator, killing bacteria and then this water is good for drink. Julia Parreiras and Veronica Santos will build this solar concentrator and will teach those in need to build, their own using a reflective surface and scrap of cardboard.

The concentrators made from crude materials are very effective. To ensure disinfection they need to sustain at least 50C for 4 hours. That the process to be effective, they use PET bottles, half painted black in order to absorb more heat. By some changes made, they hope to reduce the exposure time from 4 hours to only 2 for obtain drinking water as fast. This is a wonderful invention, especially that will help those people who need drinking water.
