World's First Megawatt-Scale Tidal Turbine

Soon harnessing energy from the ocean could produce as much as 20% of America's power. Recently was completed the installation of the world's first megawatt-scale tidal turbines by Marine Current Turbines. Before regularly feeding power into the grid MCT will spend about 12 weeks testing the capabilities of the turbines. Now, on the bottom of the sea, the 1000 ton SeaGen tidal turbine was secured with Northern Ireland's electrical grid.

Unlike the wind, tidal power has many advantages. So far were not close enough data to determine what effect it will have on marine life. Since roads do not need to be built to them, it is believed that this source of energy will have an less environmental impact. I hope to don't have effects about marine life because it would be a disaster. But let's see what conclusion they come after tests. To prove this point we've got the first images of the turbine installed:
